Jose Chameleone Returns to Uganda After Months of Medical Treatment in the U.S.

A hero’s welcome for the legendary singer following his medical journey abroad

Ugandan music legend Jose Chameleone is finally back on home soil after months of receiving medical treatment in the United States. The celebrated star arrived in Uganda today, greeted by close family, friends, and loyal fans who have been anxiously awaiting his return.

Chameleone, real name Joseph Mayanja, was flown out of the country in late 2024 to undergo specialized care for acute pancreatitis. His condition had escalated toward the end of the year, leading to his hospitalization at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala before being transferred to the U.S., with support from the Ugandan government.

Dressed in a simple hoodie and sunglasses, Chameleone appeared visibly emotional as he landed at Entebbe International Airport. “I thank God for life. I’m happy to be home. Uganda is my heart,” he told Devoss Media at the airport.

During his time away, the singer kept a low profile, occasionally sharing gratitude to fans through social media. In a heartfelt Christmas message last year, he expressed deep appreciation to supporters and promoters, assuring them that he would be back stronger after recovery.

Now that he’s back, fans are hopeful about seeing him return to the stage soon. However, sources close to the Leone Island boss say he will be taking time to fully recover and reconnect with his roots before making any major public appearances.

The music industry has already started buzzing with excitement, with fellow artists and celebrities posting welcome-back messages across social platforms using the hashtag #WelcomeBackChameleone.

As Uganda’s most iconic artist, Chameleone’s presence on the music scene has been greatly missed — but with his return, many believe a powerful new chapter is about to begin.

Stay tuned to Devoss Media for exclusive interviews, updates, and behind-the-scenes moments as we follow Jose Chameleone’s journey back to full strength.
